The
Moors Islamic Cultural Home was started in the year 1944 and
is now in its 60th year. The
M.I.C.H. set out to become the premier service organization
to help the Muslims of this country.
Amongst its objectives, they undertook the
study of the history, customs, traditions
and habits of
the Ceylon Moors, and the promotion of Islamic culture and religion.
The association was started
by a group of eminent leaders of the Muslim community,
amongst whom was Sir Razik
Fareed, Messrs A.H. Macan Markar, A.I.L. Marikkar,
W.M. Hashim and A.L.M. Lafir. |

The
MICH has its headquarters in “Pasha Villa” Dematagoda,
where the main service oriented projects
are conducted. The Association has an impressive building in
Bristol Street, Fort, where
all social functions are held and seminars and similar activities
are conducted. At present,
two projects have been earmarked for development and expansion.
The first is the Women’s
Hostel for Muslim girls, which is presently under construction.
The second project earmarked
for expansion is the Lady Fareed Home for Elders in Makola,
which was opened in 1956. |

MICH marches on into the future looking forward to many more
years of dedicated
service to the Muslims in
keeping with the traditions and culture of the community. |
