The Social & Recreational Committee of the Moors’ Islamic Cultural Home takes pride to announce the staging of the “8th MJM Lafir Memorial Tournament 2009” from 2nd to 12th of December 2009.
MOHAMED JUNAID MOHAMED LAFIR, a National Hero, was synonymous with both games- Billiard & Snooker in the country and by winning the World Amateur Billiards Championship in Bombay in 1973 he became the first Sri Lankan to win a World Title in any Sport. Lafir won the National Snooker Championship 18 times and the Billiard Championship on 16 occasions, a record thus far not bettered.
This prestigious Tournament which has representations from Clubs, Societies and Associations affiliated to the Billiard & Snooker Association of Sri Lanka with the participation of top ranked players in the country. Several top ranked players from India has also shown their willingness to participate at this year’s Tournament too.
The MICH Billiard Parlour at MICH, No. 115, Dematagoda Road, Colombo 9 has been the appropriate and magnificent venue for the conduction of such a Tournament with four fully-equipped Billiard Tables, Air-conditioned Parlour and seating accommodation for more than 150 spectators. An attractive Souvenir is being published to mark this Tournament.
We wish to give below the other related details of the Tournament:
- The Tournament will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations adopted by the Billiard & Snooker Association of Sri Lanka.
- In any other matters not provided for in the said rules and regulations, the decision of the Tournament Committee shall be final.
- Basis of Play:
Snooker:
- Initially the Tournament be played on a knock-out Basis– Best of 3 Frames
- Quarter-Finals: Best of 5 Frames
- Semi-Finals: Best of 7 Frames
- Finals: Best of 9 Frames
Billiards:
- Initially the Tournament be played on a knock-out Basis – Best of 3 Sets – 100 points up.
- Quarter-Finals : Best of 5 Sets – 100 points up.
- Semi-Finals: Best of 7 Sets – 100 points up.
- Finals: Best of 9 Sets – 100 points up.
- Prize Money: (Snooker & Billiards separately)
Winner - Rs. 25,000/= & Challenge Trophy with Replica
Runner-up - Rs. 15,000/= & Challenge Trophy with ReplicaM
Losing Semi-Finalist - Rs. 5,000/= each
Highest Break - Rs. 5,000/=
- Entry fee of Rs. 500/- per participant is levied and Entry Forms are available with all affiliated clubs of Billiards & Snooker Association of Sri Lanka and also could be obtained from the Tournament Organisers.
